Have A Splendid Day!

Hello!  I have a few new cards to share with you this week ... woo hoo!  Last weekend, Jordan (the granddaughter), Gary and I drove over to the big city of Tyler to have lunch and shop a little.  O.k., I realize you Texas girls are thinking that Tyler is not that big, and you are probably right, but they do have tons more restaurants and stores than we have here, so when you live kinda out in the country, like we do, Tyler is pretty darn big.  They have a Michaels there, so I made Gary take me there, but my best find was next door to Michaels at Big Lots.  I got a stamp set for $2.00 and today's card is made with a couple of stamps from that set!  I loved the rose in the set, but I had a hard time with it, but I will tell you more about that once I show you my card and the set of stamps.  Enjoy!

I think sometimes companies don't always think of how their stamps will work when they are inked when they make them.  The rose is the perfect example of this.  Most stamps are either a solid image or an open image.  This one is both.  I first stamped the image in black, thinking I would color it in.  So, when I did that, the solid leaves were black.  I tried stamping in several different colors but didn't like the coloring process.  So, then I went to the pattern paper piecing idea, and liked it better. The first thing I tried was just embossing in clear onto the pattern paper but it didn't show up good enough, so I had to go with some ink color. But, I had to use two different inks, one on the flower part and one on the leaf part and piece them together.  I went with a gray on the flower part, figuring it wouldn't be as dark as a black.  And the leaves were stamped in a green onto the pattern paper.  I liked it but it was very dull looking, so ... I added clear embossing powder and embossed it.  The oval layer behind the rose has my original embossing idea with a bunch of roses embossed in clear. Here is a close-up of that panel.  It is still kinda hard to see but if you look close, I think you can see the roses in the background.

I used a sketch from one of Saturday sketch shares. (Mojo 122).  Oh, and do you see the embossed image on the right side panel?  That is a new stamp I got at the convention from Rubbernecker.  Yes, I know I didn't "need" another swirl stamp, but I wanted it!  Hee, Hee!  Do you like how my card came out?

  1. I haven't been to Big Lots! in at least a year but I stopped by my local BL the day before I read your blog about your Big Lots! stamp. I found several Inkadinkado wood stamps and a clear alphabet set that were $2 each. There were not a lot of choices but I liked several that they had. I like your rose card and am encouraged that even a stamping veteran such as yourself sometimes has trouble with a stamp. I love that long swirl on the side of the card. It makes me think of a rose stem but even if it didn't do that, you KNOW how I love swirl stamps. And leaves. And cats.
