What's in Your Pocket? Card #3

Hello!  Sorry I am late posting today.  Today's card finishes the three part series on the pocket cards I did this week for The Crafty Scrapper's blog.  I was at the store teaching yesterday and I got great compliments about all the cards from my class takers, and also the store owner and manager.  Wow, that is pretty darn nice!  I will share the post as I wrote it below.  And add an extra photo at the bottom for you.  Enjoy!

Hello, it's Tina here to show you my third pocket card creation made using some wonderful products from The Crafty Scrapper.

The card features a pocket horizontally across the width of the card, highlighted with a favorite border die from My Favorite things.  The sentiment is from an awesome set of stamps from Inky Antics.  The swirl is a chipboard from Maya Road that was inked with Distress pads and then embossed with an embossing folder.  This was a first for me, and I love the effect!  The flower looked like this before ...

And now, perfectly matches my card!  First, I changed the color by coloring it with my Copics.  Then I flattened it out and cut out the middle, so that it would be flat enough for me to add that big red rhinestone!  An altered flower ... wow!

Stop in the Crafty Scrapper so you can see all three of my pocket cards in person and get a list of the supplies I used.
  Happy Stamping!
Tina

Here is my extra photo of the tag pulled out of the pocket ...
And one more!  A good close-up of my "altered" flower!

What's In Your Pocket? Card #2

Hello!  I am off to teach today but I wanted to give you my version of the post that went live today on The Crafty Scrapper's blog.  If you missed yesterday, be sure to scroll down to see it, as today's card, yesterday's card, and tomorrow's card are all created with pockets on the front of the cards.  I will also be showing you an additional photo at the end that will not be on their blog.   Here is the my post ... enjoy!

Hello, it's Tina here, to share with you the second of the three pocket cards I have made using wonderful products from The Crafty Scrapper.

Today's card features a fold down diagonal pocket on the front.  I added a fun butterfly wood embellishment from Maya road and colored it with a Copic marker.

The stamped sentiment on the tag is from a wonderful set of stamps from Inky Antics.  The tag was made from the backside of the floral paper.  It is one of those sheets that is made to cut apart.  As a stamper, I rarely use them.  So glad I got to today!

My card can be seen in person at The Crafty Scrapper and you can get a list of supplies used on this card when you stop in!

Thanks for stopping by!
See you tomorrow for my third pocket card creation!
Happy Stamping!

One more tag tomorrow ... see you then!

What's In Your Pocket? Card #1

Hello!  I am in the middle of prepping my class kits for my class tomorrow, but I have a post that went live this morning on The Crafty Scrapper's blog, so I wanted to make sure you have the one from me as well.  If you follow the link, and compare mine below with theirs, it is a little different, but close.  I also have a an  extra photo to share with you at the end.  Oh, and one more thing, I will not be including the recipe supply list for these posts.  They want to drive the customers into their store.  If you have questions, you can always contact me.  Now, let me give you a little background about the card you will be seeing today and the two following in the next two days.  It  really helps me when there is some kind of theme or something that all the cards share. All three cards include some kind of pocket on the front of the card.  And you will be so proud of me, I used some of those thicker embellishments that I showed you, but as you will see, I made them work for me.  I think all three of the cards could be sent in the mail, but you would probably have too add a little postage.   Here is my blog post I did before any editing was done ... enjoy!

Hello, it's Tina here today to share a card with you using wonderful products from The Crafty Scrapper!

I made three cards, all created with cool pockets on the front!  So, I have one for you today.  Come back  tomorrow to see the second.  And on Thursday, I will show you the third.

My first pocket card features awesome paper from Authentique. It is actually a baby line, but not today!  What that means, is that when you are at the store, don't limit yourself to only looking at papers in one area!  Since, I rarely make a card without stamps,  I thought this wonderful butterfly stamped image, by Inky Antics, was a perfect pairing with the Maya Road wood birdcage embellishment.  I colored the birdcage with a  Copic marker and I love the effect!

Above view shows the tag being pulled from the pocket.  I want to make a note about the green ribbon.  The front side was a bright green that really didn't match the paper, so I flipped it over.  The nice edges at the top of the tag, were created with the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board.  The width of the tag is 2 1/4", so you line it up on that measurement and punch.  Flip over the tag and do the same on the other side.  Then, you can use the rounded punch for the other two corners.

Every card I make, I always make sure to have a place to write my card message.  Above shows my standard inside, measuring 3 3/4" x 5. The card can be sent for many occasions, so I have left it blank so that I might add my sentiment later.  But, it is so important to finish the inside when you are making your card.  This will save you time later looking for the right papers to match when you go to send it.

My card can be seen in person at The Crafty Scrapper.  Get a list of supplies used on this card when you stop in.

Thanks for stopping by today!
Come back tomorrow to see my second pocket card creation!
Happy Stamping!

And the extra photo from me ...the tag out of it's pocket!

I will be back tomorrow with the next pocket card!

For You, My Friend!

Hello!  I am back today with another card with that cute little Freida fox I used last week!  This time, I added glasses to her, which is also included in the set!  And I made her a gray fox so she would match the papers I used.  Here is my card ... enjoy!

Recipe:
Paper - Echo Park Yours Truly 6 x 6 pad, Cardstock White, Red
Stamps - Reverse Confetti Quirky Cuties: Freida Fox
Ink - Memento Black, Copics
Tools - Spellbinders Classic Scallop Circle, Classic Circle, The Stamps of Life Scallop border die

Other - Ribbon from May Arts, Rhinestones

Last Friday, I showed you the post that I thought would also be shown on The Crafty Scrapper's blog, but it seems that they thought my post was too long, and so without my knowledge they did an edit and removed part of it.  I was not that happy about it since I was not expecting it.  I now understand more of how they want their posts to look.  My second set of cards going live this Wed., were going to be in one post, but it was going to be especially long.  We changed that into three separate posts, for the next three days.  So, stop back here to see those, along with some with some extra pictures and details about the cards.

Happy Stamping!

Saturday's Sketch Share!

Hello!  I am back today with another sketch share between Debbie and I.  This is another week where we had a choice between circle or square.  I think it is so interesting that when Debbie and I first started doing this share together, she would almost always go with the square choice and I with the circle choice.  Now, about two years later, we have switched.  I mostly do squares (small ones) and she mostly does circles.  Let's get to our cards.  I will show you my card, Debbie's card, and the sketch choices we had.  Enjoy!

My Card

Debbie's Card

The Sketches
Debbie wrote on the inside of her card, that she wasn't sure about hers ... but I love hers!  And so much, that I might be "casing" that one!  I think that chevron pattern paper in the middle really sets off the other papers and colors.  She did mention that she had trouble finding a small enough sentiment to add to the middle.  I like mine too.  I did that triple stamping technique, but technically with my card, it should be a double stamping technique, as there were only two layers.  The only thing was I found a distress ink color that perfectly matched the green in the paper, but later, it seemed liked it faded a little.  Sometimes die inks do that, not sure why.  Do you like our cards?

I am off today to the second of the two stamp conventions this month.  I debated about going, as my pocketbook is low, but I decided in the end, I might be disappointed if I didn't.  I will let you know if I find anything interesting in tomorrow's words of wisdom post.

Happy Stamping!

Through Thick and Thin!

Hello!  Well today is the day!  My first blog post is going live on The Crafty Scapper's blog today.  (The second one will be next Wed.)  I actually have the post that is going live below, but before that, of course, I want to share a little.  Here are a couple of photos of what they gave me to work with ...

As you can see in the second photo, a lot of the items are thicker, like the wood pieces, the chipboard pieces, and the flowers, than I normally add to my cards.  I decided I would address this fact in the post and explain that if you go too thick, your card will more likely be one that you would give to the recipient, instead of sending by snail mail.  When I owned my store, we would make samples for the store and never did I think about how thick I made one or how it would get sent.  But, since I closed my store, and the fact that most of the cards I make now, I do send in the mail, my whole thought process has changed.  And as you know, I also now make sure that the inside is done to complete the card.  I also talked about this.  I am happy with the post I did.  But of course, I worry a little, as the design team coordinator told us to not make the posts too long or to show to many photos.  Mine?  Well, I know you can guess ... yes, it is long and too many photos.  My thinking is that people can just skip over what they are not interested in but the information will be there if they are interested.  I look at blogs all the time.  And for me, if I am interested in their card, but they haven't included any details, I am always disappointed.  The other thing is that everyone else on the design team make scrapbook pages, books or something directly related to scrapbooking.  I am the only card maker.  One card I made that you will see has more of a "scrapbook" feel and the other's are more "my style".  Thanks for letting me give you my thoughts and background on this.  Below, you will find my post ... enjoy! (P.S. See you tomorrow for the Sat. sketch share!)

Hello, it's Tina, the resident card teacher, here today to share with you  three cards I made with some fabulous products from The Crafty Scrapper!

Before I show you my cards, I want to give you a little background.
Carolyn asked me if I would be the card maker for the design team. I was happy to do it.
I was given a packet of various papers and embellishments.
I quickly realized that thick embellishments were going to challenge my card making style.
I am one that actually sends my cards in the mail, so I am always conscience of the thickness.
But, after looking around for some ideas, I decided it would be fun to make some thicker cards.
I just have to know that the thicker ones are going to be the ones that will be hand given not sent.
So, my first card to show you is a thick one, but oh, so pretty!
And since I was going thick, I got to use my Tim Holtz Rosette die ... woo hoo.
I almost always make a card from either a sketch or
CASE (copy and share everything) one that I see that I like.
This is a CASE from one on my Pinterest board.  You can see it here.

There were flowers in my packet but I wanted the color to be brighter,
so, I changed the color with a Copic!
Easy Peasy!

The next picture shows how thick the card is.
One note, I have seen on blogs where they used a hot glue gun.
I have never used this form of adhesive
until today!
I found it worked great to adhere
the twine, flower, and rosette
to my card!

Adding that rose reminded me of a stamp!
(Of course, it did!)
So, I used the same papers and supplies
to make a second card (a thin one)!
See how different one central image can change the cards look!
Oh, and I did a CASE on this card.
I also did my favorite technique ... paper pieced her dress to match!

Before I go onto my third card today, I want to give you a tip.
Those that have taken classes from me, know this ...
I always add panels to the inside of the card
when I am making the card.
Sometimes I stamp the inside sentiment,
but if they are cards like the two above,
you might not know the occasion it will be used for,
like birthday, thinking of you, etc.
In this case, I leave it blank.
But, adding the insides saves time
looking for the right papers later.
Here is the inside for the first two cards.

For my third card, I decided to go with a Valentine theme.
This one is in between thick and thin.
I actually did a CASE from a card I have made before.
See it here.

A couple of things to note on this card...
The chipboard heart and "always' really sparkles with
that red glitzy glitter from Elizabeth Crafts!
And I wanted to add something to her dress, so
I used the Copic Colorless Blender
to add the dots!
And here is the inside ...

How's It Growin'?

Hello!  My card today combines some new stuff and some old.  Back around Thanksgiving,  I ordered some dies from My Favorite Things that they had bargains on and one of the dies was this farm fence that I knew would go perfectly with my farm girl.  And then a couple of weeks ago, I got this embossing folder of clouds.  Sounded like a perfect combination to me.  I got to do a little coloring and a lot of cutting out, which I know people don't always like to do!  But, me, I like it.  So, let me show you my card ... enjoy!

Do you see that it is blue around the clouds?  I have seen on pinterest where they add color with ink on the actually inside of the embossing folder before they run it through with the paper and it inks the paper on the background.  So, I did it and it worked.  Now, in real life and up close, it is not as smooth as I might like, but who's says sky is one smooth, solid color, right?  Did you like my piggy's head popping out of the fence?  I know I saw this on an idea somewhere and that is why I wanted the fence!  When I had the idea for the card, the floral background was not in my mind for what I wanted the background paper to be, but when I saw it, I changed my mind and went with it.  I like it!  What do you think?  Fun card?

Recipe: Floral paper from unknown company: I believe it originally came out of a 12 x 12 pad but was given to me so I don't know the manufacture, Cardstock White, Red, Olive Green, Light Blue
Stamps - My Favorite Things PI Farm Girl

Ink - Memento Black, Copics, Distress Ink Tumbled Glass
Tools - My Favorite Things Farm Fence Die-namics, Darice Clouds embossing folder
Other - Rhinestones

It's A Cupcake Kind of Day!

Hello!  The Crafty Scrapper where I teach my classes is really trying to get their blog going. It's not a new blog, but I don't think they were very consistent in the past, so now they have a whole new design team to promote it and to show you projects from different people.  Yes, like me! I think I told you they signed me up to do cards.  My first blog post will go live on Friday.  I will give you background here on my own blog on that day and then show you the post I did for it.  I guess one of the things they are planning is to have a challenge every month open to anyone to participate.  This month's challenge is to create any layout, card, or project using dies or punches.  Is that not right up my alley?  You know, I rarely make a card without a die?  So, I had a die set that I got at the store a while back and thought "perfect"!  Here is my card.  Enjoy!

I love how this came out.  So often when I use dies, I use pattern paper, but this time I did it the old fashion way ... I colored!  I acutally used the chisel tip on the copic pen to make larger strokes on both the cup bottom and the swirls, which by the way, was done with the blender pen.  I think if you click on the photo, it will give you a close up.  And, if it works, you can see the sprinkles.  They are very light, almost too light.  I didn't really notice this until the card was completely done.  But, over all, it is a fun card, I think!   And it fits the challenge perfectly!  I think ... you should join in!  Go make something, anything, just make sure you use a punch or a die and link it up here.  Have fun!

Recipe:
Paper - Authentique Wishes Collection: "Merriment" (both sides), My Minds Eye Sunny Side 6 x 6 (from my stash, blue behind cupcake and yellow dot for swirl)
Stamps - My Favorite Things Pure Innocence Hello Cupcake (sentiment), Sprinkles from A Muse Cupcake set from my stash
Ink - Memento Black, Copics, Distress Ink in Spun Sugar for sprinkles
Tools - Impression Obsession Cupcake die set, My Favorite Things Loopy Border die-namics
Other - Ribbon from American Crafts, Button, Twine, Baubles

Hey Foxy!

Hello!  I was able to stamp a little over the weekend, at least to get a couple of cards made.  I hope to be able to get creative today or tomorrow too, but we'll see how it goes.  Today's card is from a new set I just ordered from Reverse Confetti.  The owner of this company, Jen del Muro, used to teach Copic classes at my store, so I think it is pretty funny that now I am coloring with Copics and inking her stamps.  Here is my card ... enjoy!

Pretty cute, huh?  From my understanding, this little fox, named Frieda, is the first of a new line from her called Quirky Cuties!  It is safe to say, that if they are all as cute as this one, I may be starting a new collection!  You will be seeing this stamp from me again soon.  It was fun to color.  Speaking of coloring, I used to not like to color, but you know what?  I think I am changing a little.  The copics just make it so easy and I love how the ink looks so smooth on the paper.  The only issue I have is not knowing what colors to use.  That is why I love to pick the papers first, and then I can color to match.  Just like I did with this card!

Recipe:
Paper - Basic Grey Hey Girl 6 x 6 pad, Cardstock Natural White, Dark Brown
Stamps - Reverse Confetti Quirky Cuties: Frieda Fox
Ink  Memento Black, Copics
Tools - Spellbinders Classic Scallop Circle and Classic Circle

Other - Pearls, Twine from The Twinery, Sheer Ribbon from DeNami Designs

Saturday's Sketch Share!

Hello!  I know you haven't seen since last week.  I think I am out of my normal routine.  Remember, we have house guests.  Gary's son and granddaughter are living with us right now until they close on their house, probably next month.  I hope to find me a new routine so I can get creative!  But, at least I did the card of the week!  And today, of course, you get two cards, one from Debbie and one from me.  I will show you my card, Debbie's card, and the sketch we both did.  Enjoy!

Debbie's Card

The Sketch
This was an interesting sketch I thought.  I am not sure if I really like or not.  For mine, I inked up some stamps I got in a clearance bin at the stamp convention last weekend.  I know you are thinking a pink typewriter?  Well, when I was in high school, I had a blue one!  Maybe they had pink ones?  Well, probably not, but it was fun to make it anyway!  Debbie said she has been making a bunch of "guy" birthday cards so she shared one of them with us.  What do you think of the sketch this week?

See you tomorrow for the quote of the day.

Sunday Words of Wisdom!

Hello!  Since yesterday I attended the rubber stamp convention in Grapevine, I thought something about creativity was in order ... enjoy!

They said it was their 18th year.  And I have been around for all of them.  When I had the store, I was their biggest promoter.  I always figured that I would get more business by making it a positive instead of a negative.  I would have guest teachers come to my store before and after the conventions, and on the Saturday nights after the show, I would host a big party at the store, with another guest doing demos.  It was always a money making weekend and oh, so fun!  I knew I would get to see so many customers that weekend, not only the ones I saw often, but also, the out of towners.  And, that is why I went to the stamp convention yesterday.  The show was a lot smaller than it used to be in the early days, which for me was good, because it allowed me to have time to visit with many ex-customers that I haven't seen in a while.  I really enjoyed my day, and of course, I picked up a few new things to play with.

See you soon!

Saturday's Sketch Share!

Hello!  I have another sketch share for you between Debbie and I.  I will show you my card, Debbie's and the sketch we both used.  Enjoy!

My Card

Debbie's Card

The Sketch
I started with one idea but quickly found out that the image I picked was too big for the circle on the sketch, so I had to go with plan B.  In the end, I like how it turned out.  I think Debbie pretty much said the same thing about her card and that once the papers got cut to the correct size, it all came together.  Do you like this week's sketch?

I am off today to Grapevine to go to the stamp convention.  I am hoping to get to visit with a lot of my ex-customers.  I'll fill you in tomorrow.

Happy Stamping!

A Calendar Page ... BBQ Dude!

Hello!   I have something to share with you that I made back in early December that I never showed you.  I was contacted by a friend that says she participates in a calendar swap every year.  Every person is responsible for one month and you have to make 13 5" x  7" pages to share.  The only requirement is that there is a calendar of that month somewhere on the page.  I guess the lady that had signed up for June had to drop out because of illness, so they had a month open, and that is how I got invited.   When thinking of June, I decided to go with Father's Day and a summer theme ... BBQ ... BBQ Dude!  Let me show you my page ... enjoy!

I love how my page came out.  I even paper pieced his apron!  I had to do it!  Too Cute!  I wanted to wait until I got the other month's pages before I showed you mine.  Well, I got them, at least most of them ... I guess 4 of the month's are still coming.  Three people are late, and one is mia.  I had about 3 weeks to say yes, make my pages, and send them.  The four had a whole year.  I don't really have permission to show you everyone's pages, but here is a  view ...

I am very happy with the pages I received and I love that there is also a front page.  I think March is the month that they need someone to do.  It is not too late ... if you are interested in doing it, just contact me and I will hook you up with the right person.

Sometimes I sign up for stuff, not always thinking thru what it will entail.  A perfect example is this ... I was at the store and Carolyn, the owner,  mentioned to me that she would like me to be the card maker on the store's design team.  I said o.k.  So, the last time I was there, I was handed a big envelope of 12 x 12 papers and some embellishments and was told to come up with some cards with them.  Sounds easy enough, right?  Yes, and no.  The embellishments they gave me are pretty thick.  You know like chipboard, wood, etc.  As you know, those type embellishments I rarely use on cards, as it makes them so thick to send in the mail and as you know, I do send my cards.  I think the "scrapbook" look is to use those thick embellishments for all their projects.  I decided to approach this as two types of cards, those to send and those to give.  The thicker ones will be in a more "scrapbook style" and better for giving, instead of sending. I will be making both type of cards.  I am set to make my appearance on
The Crafty Scrapper blog on January 24th.  But, go check it out now, as there are others doing posts every few days!

I will have the Saturday sketch cards for you tomorrow.
Happy Stamping!

Another Year Older and Wiser!

Hello!  The last few days have been cold which makes it hard for me to want to go out to my stamping shack.  I first have to go out there and turn on the heaters and then I can go back when I think it has warmed up enough.  Yesterday, I was out there for quite some time.  I am loving that it is cleaner than it was before Christmas, but yesterday, I had a hard time getting the creative mojo going.  I need to be making some general cards I can have in a stash for when I need them.  All I got made yesterday was my Saturday card, but fortunately for you, I already have a birthday card to show you today.   Let's do it ... enjoy!

I love how this one came out.  So simple, but yet all the layers give it a lot of interest.  Like?

Stamps - Owl & Sentiment by Darcies, Branch by Endless Creations

Saturday's Sketch Share!

Hello!  I am a creature of habit so ... you know what that means?  Every Saturday, I will be bringing you more shares between Debbie and I.  I love the challenge of it and also love to try out new sketches to add to my "go to" sketchbook.  Speaking of that, I need to give you my updated favorite sketches sometime soon.  Today's sketch should be added too!  I think you will agree.  Let's get to it ... I will show you my card, Debbie's card, and the sketch we both used.  Enjoy!

P.S.  On a personal note, my hubby's son and granddaughter are moving down here TODAY!  William and Jordan have been wanting to move down here for a while.  Finally ... New Job, check.  House, offer made and is a few blocks from us! Check.  Jordan will get enrolled at Malakoff High (Freshman), almost check (next week)!  Hubby and I are excited and very happy about this ... even for the fact that they are moving in with us temporarily!  Did I tell you William likes to cook?

January Class Share!

Hello!  Stamp room is clean ...well, straightened and picked up ...won't ever be "clean with all my stuff in it! LOL!  And I continually buy more.  Yes, I am addictive but if you are reading this, so are you!  So, next on the agenda was to get my January class projects done.  Carolyn had asked me to get them to her by the first so they could make her newsletter.  Done!  But, I have to share them here with you too!  One of the ladies requested that I do a card pouch like I did for the craft bazaar.  So, o.k. I knew that would be easy.  And, I figured I should do a Valentine theme since it is in January.  When I was at the store for the after Christmas sale, they let me peek in a box they had just got in from Inky Antics. Wasn't on sale, but I didn't care, as I knew it would make a darn cute project and it did!  Let me show you!  Enjoy!

Another request I got was a post it note holder, which was another craft bazaar project.  So, before I got started on the class, I had in my mind that I would teach one of the post it note holders and a new idea I saw that is a desktop version that comes complete with a calendar.  Well, after making the card pouch and all four cards and seeing how much paper that project was going to take, I had to backtrack a little and decided I will have to save the post it note holders, like the one I did for the craft bazaar, to another month.  I am still adding the desktop version to this class as a bonus project.  I just had to since it includes a calendar.  Here is the bonus project ... enjoy!

And a look from the side ...

Here are the class details for anyone interested.  Remember, I can always do a kit if you can't come or are not local.
