From One Gray Wrinkled Thing to Another!

Hello! Today's card was made for a friend who has joined the "50" club with me so, I thought this sentiment would be perfect!  For the front of my card, I went with the birthday elephant set.  The sentiment is on the inside panel.  The elephant set is the one that I used when I did one of the honeycomb pop-ups, but this time, I just stamped the elephant and the balloon on the front of the card.  It is great that the set has a regular balloon stamp as well as the one to be used for the pop-up.  It came out pretty cute - here it is!  Enjoy!

 

Sorry but I forgot to take the pic of the inside panel before I wrote in it!  But, I had to let you see the sentiment stamped out!  Oh, how do you like the red glittered toenails on the elephant?  Fun!

A Friend Knows My Song!

Hello!  Today's card I actually made before the last two but was unsure if I liked how it came out, so I was thinking I might change it.  In the end, I decided to just go with it.  It does follow a Mojo Monday sketch challenge, so I will be sharing that with you also.  Let's get to it and then you can be the judge.  Enjoy! 

As you can see, I did good on the sketch.  My original idea formed when I saw the dotted circle and I thought of that package of rhinestones in circles that are in my stash.  From there, I was thinking of how I have seen many images of silhouettes and how cool they look.  And then I thought of the music book I purchased at Canton a while back.  And that is how the card happened.  But, do I love the finished card?  Maybe, maybe not.  I would love to hear your thoughts.  I did add more rhinestone swirls to help the blue rhinestone circle not look so out of place.  Is it the sentiment ... is it too stark of a color for the faded music?  But what other color would be better?  Oh by the way, the sentiment is completed on the inside.  It says " and sings it to me when I forget!"

A Friend with Chocolate!

Hello!  I am back with another card combining both a color challenge from the Color Throwdown blog and a sketch challenge from My Favorite Things.  I recently picked up this cute Pure Innocence girl at The Crafty Scrapper.  I love that she is selling a few stamps for us, stampers!  Since the sketch is MFT, I thought it would be a perfect time to ink her up!  Let's get to it.  Following my card, I will add the sketch, and the color palette.  Enjoy!

Did I do good or what?  What is fun about the color challenges is that you have to look at all your scrapbook paper in new ways.  For instance, I found the saffron color on the backside of a paper that had colorful stars on the front - you just never know where you will find the perfect colors.  Yes, the stripe panel is exactly the colors, and I was pleased to find it!  I do have one tip on paper piecing the girls and cutting out the elements ... each girl is different, but on this one, I originally cut out just the box without her arms attached but I quickly found out that if I did that, her arms would look like they were below the pieced dress and box layer, so by leaving her arms attached to the box, it appears that her arms and box are above her dress, which is the effect I want.  I guess what I am trying to say is that when you want to  paper piece the clothing on these intricate images, you may have to experiment in how you cut the other elements out to create your finished look.  I hope that makes sense.

Take It Easy!

Hello!  I know you haven't heard from me in a couple of days. I had a little case of lost creative mojo but I got it back by finding some challenges online to give me some spark!  Today's card is a color challenge from The Cat's Pajamas. I also used Jen's February's Sketch For You To Try.  I used the sketch last week with my Seize the Cupcake card.  But, I don't see anywhere in Jen's rules, that I can't enter a card more than once in the same month.  The sketch just seem perfect for today's card.  And the colors?  Oh my, when I saw the combination of pink, chocolate and teal, I absolutely knew I would want to play along.  The Cat's Pajamas stamps are not required, but when I first saw the colors and it said TCP, my first thought was the set I have used a couple of times before ... brown bunny, teal scooter, and pink scarf... perfect!  Let me show you and then I will show you the color combo too!  Enjoy!

How about those scrumptious colors?  I think I did good.  The only thing I think could have made my card better is to have maybe picked a colored pencil that was a little bit more aqua and less turquoise for the scooter.  I didn't really realize the color difference until my card was completely put together.  Oh well, I still like it.  How about you?

Flowers Just for You!

Hello!  I have a new technique to share with you today.  Actually, I am just the "passer on", as I got the idea from Anne Harada's blog called Everlasting Ink.  She is an ex-customer of mine and she has also done a tutorial for it on Splitcoast Stampers, which you can see here.  Her technique is called Faux Pressed Flowers.  And I am amazed how much the flowers really do look like real pressed flowers.  They are super simple to create.  All you need is a few of the Prima flowers we all have in our room, a glue stick and an embossing folder with a very tight grid design.  For my card, I went with the square lattice folder from Stampin' Up.  Let me show you my card.  Enjoy!

Simply, glue flowers to paper and run through with embossing folder and they appear to be part of the paper instead of added on top.  What do you think ... very cool technique?  I like it.  I need to try some other folders ... to be continued!

So Cut that Crap Out!

Hello!  Today I have a card that was made and sent a couple of weeks ago for a friend's birthday.  My friend, Kelly, I have know since 7th grade, which I guess that makes us friends for almost 40 years - wow!  Anyway, every year, she has her birthday in Feb. which I know means mine is coming three months later.  So, when I saw this stamp I knew it would be a perfect stamp for a card for her.  I got it before I closed my store and I would have used it on her last birthday card except that last year, we turned 50 and that called for another type of card.  So, I am finally using this stamp for this year's birthday.  Here is the card ... enjoy! 

Oh my goodness, I went crazy paper piecing the image, not only her clothes, but the stool she is sitting on.  But I like it ... do you?

Seize the Cupcake!

Hello!  Now, that I am finished with the Valentine cards, I started thinking of what sketches and ideas I had put off to the side.  The major one is the sketch challenge from Jen delMuro, as she has one a month, and her contest is for the person that does all 12 months, so I didn't want to forget to do this month.  That is how my card started.  But, what to use as my focal element?  Recently, I saw an idea where they paper pieced cupcake stamps.  Great idea!  Here is my card and the sketch and then I have a little silly story to share.  Enjoy!

Cupcakes & Stamping ... As you know, these two go hand in hand.  As there are many cupcake stamps from just about every stamp company.  And, papers and ribbon and more.  And I, seem to collect it all!  The cupcake stamp set I used today from Hero Arts, was a huge seller when I had my store.  I reordered it so many times and it sold out every time.  At the end, it was a set I knew I had to have.  But, now the funny part, I don't think before today I had every stamped it!  (maybe once).  How crazy is that?  The idea with  paper piecing the cupcake, I thought DUH ... why didn't I think of that?  I paper piece everything else, why not cupcakes.  The card came out so good, I think you might see more cupcakes from me in the future!
