Saturday's Sketch Share!

Hello!  I am back today with another sketch share between Debbie and I.  Earlier this week, I looked at my calendar and realized how close Christmas really is and so, I made the decision that every sketch share for the next 6 weeks, I was going to turn it into a Christmas card that can be sent.  And I would make additional ones, as much as the supplies on hand allowed.  That means you probably won't see as many fall cards, but something has to give!  I just ordered a nativity die that I have wanted since last year and so I decided that it could work in this sketch, but quickly found out that I was going to have to do a much bigger card.  Found an envelope size that would work, thus making the card approx. 4 1/2 x 6 1/2.  Enough about my card, as Debbie's card is very "fallish" ...perfect for the season and so pretty!  Let's do it ... I will show you my card, Debbie's card, and the sketch we both used.  Enjoy!

By the way, I was able to make seven additional ones.  I wished I could have made more, but that is all the blue swirl paper I had.  It came out of one of those big 12 x 12 pads from Die Cuts with a View and one I bought a couple of years ago ... so, that makes it next to impossible to find another sheet exactly the same.  I will be using this die again, (FYI: die is from Taylored Expressions and sentiment is Verve) in a different sketch and different papers.  Gotta do it.  That is it for today.  I am off to a funeral at the church and helping with the food after the service.  I will see you tomorrow for Sunday words of wisdom post!

Sending Get Well Thoughts!

Hello!  I have been busy in my room this week working on my December class samples and six cards for a lady at church.  I haven't finished the class samples yet, but I did get all the cards made for my friend.  She asked me probably a month ago if I would make her a set of cards.  I had told her it would but it would be after the church bazaar before I got to them.  That was a week ago, and so now it was time to get them done.  Since next week is my teaching week when you usually don't see me, I am spreading out the cards, one a day!  Let's get to today's ...enjoy! 

 

 

 

I love how this one came out.  Simple and so pretty!  Of course, I cased the layout!  Mine is different papers, stamps, etc. but the idea is the same.  What did I do before dies?  I do love all my dies!

Thinking of You with Angels and A Butterfly!



Hello!  I am back today with three more cards that Donna and I worked on together for a card order for a lady in Ohio that contacted Donna after the Blue Star Mother's convention.  For some suggestions, Donna sent her to her own creations pinterest board.  That is where the first idea came from.  She wanted one with purples, a thinking of you, and a butterfly.  This first card is pretty much cased from a card that Donna had previously made.  Too pretty, not to share ... enjoy!



 

 

 

She also wanted a card with an angel with a dove, also in purple, and also with a thinking of you.  Donna and I combined my stamps, my idea, and some purple papers from her stash to come up with the next card.  I cut the layers and Donna did the coloring.  (Angel stamp is from Stampendous and Thinking of You is from Verve).  So peaceful, so pretty ... enjoy!

 

 

Before I go to the next card, I want to share part of the email we got back from the lady we made the cards from ..."The purple butterfly and angel with the doves......unbelieveable!  I wanted the angel with the dove to send to Capt Jennifer Harris's family.  She was a casvac pilot killed in Iraq 2/7/2007 and flew with the Purple Foxes.  Jen had long blond hair....I cant believe the angel has long blond hair!!!  Her call sign was the Dove.   I guess Donna and I had some angels watching over us when we made this card!

She always requested another angel card, this time with blue daisies!  Yes, daisies!  Oh my, this was probably the hardest one for us, a real challenge.  It is not like you buy and angel stamp and think oh, won't that be perfect with that daisy stamp? They just don't seem to go together, but we did it!  In the same email, she explained it as ... "The angel with the BLUE DAISES have a very special meaning for our past BSM President, Kris Dervin."  So, glad we could meet her expectations.  I do love how it came out.  ... Enjoy!

I found in Donna's stash this corner daisy stamp and thought, hmm. maybe I could make that work.  So, I stamped the daisy stamp in the corners.  Donna stamped the angel, did all the coloring, and I, went looking for some kind of paper that the angel could "rest" on.  That cloud paper was so perfect!  (Sorry, I didn't make note of who makes the stamps I used.  I can find out, if you need me to.) 

What do you think of the three cards I showed you today?  I am so glad we did a great job for the order.  It is just a feel good kinda thing!

Thanks for Protecting Our Freedom!

Hello!  Remember back in the summer when Donna and I made all the patriotic cards for the Blue Star Mother's president to sell at the convention?  Well, we added Donna's email on the back of each card as a contact.  And ... a lady from Ohio contacted Donna about us making her some more cards!  We made eight cards for her.  Three of those were repeats of the cards that were in the original group that we made for the convention.  So, between today and tomorrow's post,  I will show you the other five.  The ones for today are the two additional patriotic ones she asked for.  She specifically wanted one for a Marine and so this is what we came up with ... enjoy!

 

 

 

I am so glad that Donna had this stamp in her stash, as this was perfect.  The sketch is one we did a while back to send to the troops.  But, with different papers and stamps, it looks totally different.  I like how this one came out!   She also wanted one that said "I salute you" and said a card with a flag would work ... but, flag images are so hard to find, at least one that is an open design so that you can make it red, white and blue as it should be.  Looking for a good image, we came across a flag sticker and used it!  Don't tell the "stamping police"!  Hee, Hee!  We also reworked a card I had made earlier in the year  ... here it is ... enjoy!

 

Looking online for something else, I found a Cricut (which Donna owns) cartridge called United We Stand that all kinds of flags, words, and patriotic images that we are thinking that we could incorporate into our cards.  Of course, I ordered it.  No fear from the "stamping police" here!  Hee, Hee!

Sunday Words of Wisdom!

Hello! I am back today with another favorite from my pinterest board.  I think the way they arranged the words, they are calling this subway art.  But, I am more interested in the words themselves.   To me, they are reminders for our everyday life.  Enjoy!

I still have five handmade cards that I have not shared with you that Donna and I made a couple of weeks ago for a lady that we did an order for.  Of course, I might have to break them up and share them in more than one post!  Either way, I will see you tomorrow.

Saturday's Sketch Share!

Hello!  I am back today with another sketch share between Debbie and I.  The sketch today is interesting.  It is a little different, but I like it.  Let's get to it, so you can see what you think.  I will show you my card, Debbie's card, and the sketch we both used.  Enjoy!

O.k. what do you think?  For one thing, it is nice to have a sketch that is horizontal as opposed to the all the vertical ones.  And, with the slanted panels, it does create "interest".   Like I said above, it is different and I guess since I usually like different, it would make sense that I like this one.  The thing is, without an interesting sketch, every card looks the same.  (to me!)  Thoughts?

Assorted Post-It Notes with Measurements!

Hello!  My friend Donna and I got back from our little getaway yesterday, but I didn't get back out to my room to make you any Halloween goodies and so no post for me yesterday.  I am a little disappointed with myself that I didn't get any Halloween cards made to send.  But, something had to get marked off the list for October and Halloween cards was what it ended up being.  Today, I do have some more craft bazaar items that I made.  I have to share these as they make great gifts for any day of the year.  I, of course, got all the ideas from Pinterest.   I have four kinds of note holders to show you.  All of them use assorted designer papers and various sentiments from my stash.  I will be showing you a couple of pictures of each kind, followed by their measurements and instructions.  First up, are the ones that hold the standard 3 inch size post it notes.

Colored cardstock is cut to 3" x 6 1/2" and is scored at 3" and 3 1/2".  One note from me: next time I make these, I think I might measure the depth of my post it notes and only make the gap that tall, so it will fold tighter.  But, it still worked.  Now, you need to make a small slit on the front cover, slightly to the left of your first score line.  They suggested a ribbon slot punch, but I don't have one of these.  So, I simply made a small cut with an exacto knife.  Worked fine.  Insert your ribbon thru the slot and attach your post it notes to the back cover with strong adhesive.  The front and back covers are Spellbinders Large Scallop Square (the second largest) and you simply adhere them over the fold-over.  Add pattern paper and decorate.  That is it!  Easy Peasy!  On to the next style ...

At a dollar store in Tyler, I purchased these post it notes that were a 4 inch square.  Their depth was as least one inch high.  At first, I thought they were just notepads, but when I realized they were post it notes, I decided to just tear off about a 1/4" of them and make them into multiple holders.  So, all I did was create a fold-over where I would have a 1/4" double score line above and below the notes. My meaurements for this one is 4" x 9 1/2" with score lines at 2", 2 1/4", 6 1/4", & 6 1/2".  I added pattern papers and then on the 3" end, I used a Spellbinders die to create the edge.  Added the Basic Grey magnets to hold it together, added a stamp quote and voila... done!  Easy Peasy ... again!

Next, is a similar created holder with some store bought note pads.  I have had these notepads since last January as they came with some calendars that I got from Dollar General to use for a class. 

 

Since they had cupcakes on them, I made it the theme!  Below is the pattern papers I picked and the sentiment I used (from Reverse Confetti) onto a Spellbinders Labels One die.  On this one I just  added foam tape behind the sentiment panels only on the lower portion so the top flap could just slip behind it and hold the note card holder together. 

And last but not least ... I made a few of these ...

 

This one was super simple!  All I did was die cut the largest size Spellbinders Scallop Square, add a square of pattern paper, and the post it notes.  Then I added a smaller size Spellbinders Scallop Circle behind and added a flower or butterfly as an accent.  The ones I saw on Pinterest did not add this circle to place the accent piece on it, but I thought it was a good idea.  Here is a close-up look ...

 

And here is a back view, so you can see the circle and the magnet I added on the backside.  I am not sure where these magnet strips came from, but they worked perfectly for these.
