How's It Growin'?



Hello!  My card today combines some new stuff and some old.  Back around Thanksgiving,  I ordered some dies from My Favorite Things that they had bargains on and one of the dies was this farm fence that I knew would go perfectly with my farm girl.  And then a couple of weeks ago, I got this embossing folder of clouds.  Sounded like a perfect combination to me.  I got to do a little coloring and a lot of cutting out, which I know people don't always like to do!  But, me, I like it.  So, let me show you my card ... enjoy!

 

 

Do you see that it is blue around the clouds?  I have seen on pinterest where they add color with ink on the actually inside of the embossing folder before they run it through with the paper and it inks the paper on the background.  So, I did it and it worked.  Now, in real life and up close, it is not as smooth as I might like, but who's says sky is one smooth, solid color, right?  Did you like my piggy's head popping out of the fence?  I know I saw this on an idea somewhere and that is why I wanted the fence!  When I had the idea for the card, the floral background was not in my mind for what I wanted the background paper to be, but when I saw it, I changed my mind and went with it.  I like it!  What do you think?  Fun card?

It's A Cupcake Kind of Day!

Hello!  The Crafty Scrapper where I teach my classes is really trying to get their blog going. It's not a new blog, but I don't think they were very consistent in the past, so now they have a whole new design team to promote it and to show you projects from different people.  Yes, like me! I think I told you they signed me up to do cards.  My first blog post will go live on Friday.  I will give you background here on my own blog on that day and then show you the post I did for it.  I guess one of the things they are planning is to have a challenge every month open to anyone to participate.  This month's challenge is to create any layout, card, or project using dies or punches.  Is that not right up my alley?  You know, I rarely make a card without a die?  So, I had a die set that I got at the store a while back and thought "perfect"!  Here is my card.  Enjoy!

I love how this came out.  So often when I use dies, I use pattern paper, but this time I did it the old fashion way ... I colored!  I acutally used the chisel tip on the copic pen to make larger strokes on both the cup bottom and the swirls, which by the way, was done with the blender pen.  I think if you click on the photo, it will give you a close up.  And, if it works, you can see the sprinkles.  They are very light, almost too light.  I didn't really notice this until the card was completely done.  But, over all, it is a fun card, I think!   And it fits the challenge perfectly!  I think ... you should join in!  Go make something, anything, just make sure you use a punch or a die and link it up here.  Have fun!

Hey Foxy!

Hello!  I was able to stamp a little over the weekend, at least to get a couple of cards made.  I hope to be able to get creative today or tomorrow too, but we'll see how it goes.  Today's card is from a new set I just ordered from Reverse Confetti.  The owner of this company, Jen del Muro, used to teach Copic classes at my store, so I think it is pretty funny that now I am coloring with Copics and inking her stamps.  Here is my card ... enjoy!

 
Pretty cute, huh?  From my understanding, this little fox, named Frieda, is the first of a new line from her called Quirky Cuties!  It is safe to say, that if they are all as cute as this one, I may be starting a new collection!  You will be seeing this stamp from me again soon.  It was fun to color.  Speaking of coloring, I used to not like to color, but you know what?  I think I am changing a little.  The copics just make it so easy and I love how the ink looks so smooth on the paper.  The only issue I have is not knowing what colors to use.  That is why I love to pick the papers first, and then I can color to match.  Just like I did with this card!

Saturday's Sketch Share!

Hello!  I know you haven't seen since last week.  I think I am out of my normal routine.  Remember, we have house guests.  Gary's son and granddaughter are living with us right now until they close on their house, probably next month.  I hope to find me a new routine so I can get creative!  But, at least I did the card of the week!  And today, of course, you get two cards, one from Debbie and one from me.  I will show you my card, Debbie's card, and the sketch we both did.  Enjoy!

This was an interesting sketch I thought.  I am not sure if I really like or not.  For mine, I inked up some stamps I got in a clearance bin at the stamp convention last weekend.  I know you are thinking a pink typewriter?  Well, when I was in high school, I had a blue one!  Maybe they had pink ones?  Well, probably not, but it was fun to make it anyway!  Debbie said she has been making a bunch of "guy" birthday cards so she shared one of them with us.  What do you think of the sketch this week?

Sunday Words of Wisdom!

Hello!  Since yesterday I attended the rubber stamp convention in Grapevine, I thought something about creativity was in order ... enjoy!

They said it was their 18th year.  And I have been around for all of them.  When I had the store, I was their biggest promoter.  I always figured that I would get more business by making it a positive instead of a negative.  I would have guest teachers come to my store before and after the conventions, and on the Saturday nights after the show, I would host a big party at the store, with another guest doing demos.  It was always a money making weekend and oh, so fun!  I knew I would get to see so many customers that weekend, not only the ones I saw often, but also, the out of towners.  And, that is why I went to the stamp convention yesterday.  The show was a lot smaller than it used to be in the early days, which for me was good, because it allowed me to have time to visit with many ex-customers that I haven't seen in a while.  I really enjoyed my day, and of course, I picked up a few new things to play with.

I started with one idea but quickly found out that the image I picked was too big for the circle on the sketch, so I had to go with plan B.  In the end, I like how it turned out.  I think Debbie pretty much said the same thing about her card and that once the papers got cut to the correct size, it all came together.  Do you like this week's sketch?

I am off today to Grapevine to go to the stamp convention.  I am hoping to get to visit with a lot of my ex-customers.  I'll fill you in tomorrow.
